With his zero tolerance towards corruption, President Duterte recently said he requires nothing but honesty from his appointees in government.
The President said he expects government officials to do their job efficiently without getting involved in corruption.
“Ang selection ko talaga is based on what is to the best interest of the public and government. ‘Yon lang. Wala akong hiningi na iba. Just honesty,” Duterte said during a visit to South Cotabato. “And these are the guys who stayed long enough to know the art of governance. And just to be honest, that’s all,” he added.
The President recently vowed to continue his anti-corruption purge, saying he would fire more officials alleged involved in irregularity. He guaranteed there would be no sacred cows in the campaign against corruption in government.
In his visit to South Cotabato, the President also defended his preference for retired military and police officers, saying they get the job done fast.
Citing an example, he lauded the efforts of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy Cimatu and Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, both retired military generals, in the cleanup and rehabilitation of Boracay.
“Kinuha ko ‘yan kasi military isang utos lang. ‘Pag sinabi kong gawain mo ‘yan walang corruption, diretso. Boracay, sabi ko six months. Malinis,” he said. (Genalyn Kabiling)
