Anti-scalawag operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have arrested a policeman who was accused of extorting money from a Filipina in exchange for the release of her Korean husband.
Police Col. Romeo Caramat, director of the PNP-Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF), said the operation that occurred past noon on Tuesday stemmed from the complaint of the husband of the Korean.
He identified the suspect as Police Corporal Rommel Enrico, detailed at the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
According to the victim, Enrico asked P200,000 from her in exchange for the release of her husband who is currently detained at the BI detention facility.
Her husband was earlier arrested by the BI for overstaying.
“The offer is that he (Enrico) would facilitate the release of her husband,” said Caramat.
The entrapment was conducted at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday near the gate of the National Capital Region Police Office in Bicutan, Taguig.
Criminal and administrative charges are now being readied against Enrico. (Aaron Recuenco)
