Major reconstruction of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) won’t happen until by-pass roads that will divert motorists from the overly congested highway are created, Public Works and Highways Chief Mark Villar said.
“Before we do a major reconstruction or rehabilitation of EDSA, we have to create a bypass first because if we close down the whole stretch of EDSA it may impact our economy,” Villar said recently in a forum.
These by-pass roads are the series of expressways being implemented under the government’s Build, Build, Build infrastructure program, Villar said.
Some of them are the recently completed Harbor Link and Laguna Lake Highway; the ongoing Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3, and SLEX-NLEX Connector.
“So what we do, every weekends, we take advantage of road repair and rehab,” the secretary added.
Motorists are once again advised that certain roads in Metro Manila will undergo improvement works over the weekend. (Betheena Kae Unite)
