Security forces killed two leaders of the New People’s Army operating in the Davao region in a 45-minute clash in Digos City in Davao del Sur the other day.
Col. Adonis Bajao, commander of the Army 1002nd Brigade, said the two slain rebels were abandoned by their comrades after the clash in Sitio Lanan, Barangay Goma.
He identified those killed as Lesly Pulido, alias “Camille,” secretary of the Guerilla Front 51; and Roberto Castellote, alias “Enoy,” commander of the guerilla unit of GF51.
“They were identified through former rebels in the rogues gallery of the 39th Infantry Battalion,” said Bajao.
Bajao said the clash erupted when soldiers chanced upon the rebels based on the report of a group of farmers.
The military has initiated intensified attacks against the communist rebels after the peace talks were cancelled last month. The operations come with localized peace talks.
The communist rebels have also escalated the attacks against the government through ambushes and attacks on government forces. (Aaron Recuenco)
