Ateneo and Adamson bested their foes to complete the semifinal cast in UAAP men’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Eagles downed the University of Santo Tomas Tigers, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19, while the Falcons edged the University of the East Warriors, 27-25, 25-17, 25-15.
The win earned Ateneo and Adamson Final Four seats along with defending champion National University and Far Eastern University.
It was the Eagles’ sixth straight Final Four appearance while Adamson returned after failing to enter last season.
Chumason Njingha and Tony Koyfman fired 15 and 13 points for the Eagles, who overpowered the Tigers in attacks (41-32), blocks (7-4) and service aces (7-2).
Lawrence also led Ateneo’s offense with 25 excellent sets as well as Ron Medalla and Ishmael Rivera, who combined for 17 points.
Meanwhile, Adamson dominated UE with sharp kills anchored on George Labang Jr and Paolo Pablico, who merged for 23 of the team’s 41 spikes to finish with 17 and 12 points. Labang also finished with two blocks and two aces.
UST skidded to its eighth defeat against four wins while UE slipped to 2-10. (Kristel Satumbaga)
