Alvin Pasaol had 27 points and eight rebounds as Petron-Letran handed Ironcon-University of Santo Tomas its first loss, 114-101, in the PBA D-League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Pasaol scored six points in the final three minutes to help the Knights create separation from the Growling Tigers after a 98-all deadlock to secure a much-needed win.
Jerrick Balanza was also instrumental for the Bonnie Tan-mentored Petron-Letran as he topscored with 34 points to improve to 4-2 for fifth place in the Aspirants Group.
Petron-Letran, which bounced back from last week’s disappointing loss to Cignal-Ateneo, stayed within distance of fourth-running Che’Lu Bar and Grill (3-1).
The top four teams in the group advance to the crossover quarterfinals.
Soulemane Chabi-yo had 25 points and 11 rebounds while Brent Paraiso scored 17 points but Ironcon-UST ended a 4-0 start to fall in a tie for second place with idle St. Clare-Virtual Reality.
Cignal-Ateneo, with a 5-1 record, climbed to the solo lead in the group because of UST’s loss.
Metropac-San Beda was seeking to make it 5-1 in the Foundation Group against winless SMDC-National University and Chadao-Far Eastern University took on University of Perpetual Help at presstime. (Jonas Terrado)
