The Department of Public Works and Highways will deploy its motorist assistance teams in anticipation of the influx of travelers during Holy Week.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar said the public assistance program dubbed “Lakbay Alalay” will be placed on strategic locations nationwide starting noon on Holy Wednesday, April 17, until noon on Easter Monday, April 22.
The teams will assist motorists visiting churches, pilgrimages, and taking advantage of the long weekend to spend time with families and loved ones.
Villar said motorist assistance teams will be deployed round-the-clock to provide emergency assistance and ensure major thoroughfares are well-maintained and free from obstructions and potholes.
The teams should also make sure that appropriate warning, directional, and information signages are legibly and visibly installed especially on critical sections, Villar said.
Blue Lakbay Alalay tents will be put up where the travelling public can seek help for maintenance equipment.
Meanwhile, the DPWH said four sections of national roads in Metro Manila will undergo road repairs this weekend.
Concrete reblocking works will be undertaken on the three road sections of Epifanio de los Santos Ave. and one road section of Circumferential Road 5 in Quezon City and Makati City.
DPWH National Capital Region Director Ador Canlas said the road works will be conducted on EDSA southbound from New York St. to before Monte de Piedad St., first lane from the sidewalk, and at the northbound section between White Plains Subdivision Gate 4, in Quezon City.
In Makati City, road rehabilitation will be conducted on the second lane and from 50 meters after the Magallanes Metro Rail Transit station to Kilometer 29, outer lane, and the northbound C-5 Road fronting SM Aura. (Erma Edera)
