The Bureau of Internal Revenue is satisfied over the result of yesterday’s last day of filing 2018 Income Tax Returns, invariably describing it as manageable congestion and orderly.
BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay noted less overcrowding and rushing compared to the previous years.
The BIR chief, together with other top revenue officials, visited the four revenue regional offices in Metro Manila and observed the yearly exercise of submitting the ITR.
He said the long line of filers has been substantially cut as many individuals and practically all businesses filed their returns online.
Meanwhile, Dulay expressed optimism that they will meet the agency’s revised collection goal of more R2.2 trillion.
He said they are expecting to register a hefty increase over the previous year’s take of R1.9 trillion.
The collection goal, he said, will be reached as more taxpayers are encouraged to settle their financial obligations to the government due simplified filing and payment procedure.
He said the tax mapping operations will be stepped up to capture colorum businesses into the tax net.
The bureau will also generate huge income from delinquent taxpayers availing themselves of the tax amnesty program.
The amnesty grants a huge discount to taxpayers availing themselves of the privilege like paying only 40 percent of the amount subject to final assessment and much higher savings for cases pending before the Department of Justice, the prosecutor’s office, and the courts. (Jun Ramirez)
