CEBU CITY – Police arrested a 34-year-old security guard accused of killing a 14-year-old girl, whose body was found inside a septic tank in a school in Barangay Cogon, Danao City, Cebu.
Jessie Mediquillo admitted killing Thesa Marie Ygay because he was upset with the girl’s father.
“Her father challenged me that we kill each other,” said Mediquillo in Cebuano when he was presented to the media yesterday at the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas.
The girl’s body was found Monday last week in a septic tank inside the Cogon Cruz Integrated School where Mediquillo was detailed.
Autopsy results showed that the victim suffered 23 stab wounds. One of the blows hit the victim’s heart.
The girl had lacerations in her private parts but police couldn’t say if she was raped.
Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, director of PRO 7, said the case “is a classic example of crime of passion.”
During the press briefing, police showed a reenactment of the crime where the suspect narrated how he killed the girl in the school’s guard house last April 6.
“He became jealous when he learned that the girl was already into relationships,” said Sinas.
Mediquillo, however, denied that he and the girl had relationships.
The security guard said the girl’s father challenged him to a fight after she shaved the girl’s head.
Mediquillo said he shaved the girl’s head since her father has been admonishing him for frequently seeing him.
He said he treated the girl like her daughter and has been providing him with financial assistance in the last three years.
Mediquillo said the girl would usually visit him at school to ask money.
The suspect hid in one of his relatives’ house in Tabuelan, Cebu where he was arrested last Friday.
It was only yesterday that the suspect was presented to the media since he had to be treated in a hospital after sustaining abrasions in his hands when he and the girl wrestled, Sinas said. (Calvin D. Cordova)
