CEBU CITY – The death of self-confessed Cebuano drug lord Frans Sabalones will affect the distribution of illegal drugs in Cebu, the top officer of the Philippine National Police Regional Office in Central Visayas said Monday.
Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas said since Sabalones was a main source of illegal drug in Cebu, his death will also affect the supply of shabu.
Sinas, however, believed that Sabalones’ group will find a way to reactivate. “They will lie low at first but once they realign and reorganize, they will reactivate,” Sinas said.
Sabalones was shot in the head by an unidentified assailant past midnight Maundy Thursday in Quezon City.
Sinas said they believed that it was Sabalones who got killed. “Based on the reports from the ground and intelligence gathering, it was really Sabalones. Unless proven otherwise by scientific evidence, we believe that the fatality was Sabalones,” Sinas said.
Sinas said a deoxyribonucleic acid test will be conducted to confirm the identity of the fatality. He said Sabalones’ body was claimed and identified by a cousin but what is needed are samples from his immediate families for the DNA testing.
“We tried to locate their parents or siblings in Cebu but they can no longer be found,” Sinas said.
Sabalones’ brother Fralz is the incumbent vice mayor of San Fernando but has not been reporting to the municipal hall since mid-part of last year.
The vice mayor was included in the list of narco-politicans that President Duterte released last March 14. (Calvin Cordova)
