Senators are planning to review the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program amid reports that local politicians are using it for their campaign.
Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III yesterday stressed the need to conduct a probe, in aid of legislation, on the implementation of the 4Ps as he expressed support to the Department of Interior and Local Government’s order banning local officials from attending payouts and related activities of the national government.
“An inquiry is in order to rationalize its operation,” Sotto said.
The DILG, in issuing Memorandum Circular 2019-55, cited reports from other national government agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development, that some elective officials are “exerting undue influence” over the payouts of government programs while campaigning for the coming midterm elections.
Agreeing to the DILG, Sotto said the memorandum will “avoid politicizing government payouts.” (Vanne Terrazola)
