A man was killed in a gunfight with police after he held up the employees of a spa in Quezon City on Tuesday.
Police Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr., chief of Quezon City Police District, said the suspect clad in white shirt and maroon pants was only identified as “Marlon” based on his tattoo.
Esquivel said the shootout occurred as members of the QCPD Masambong Police Station (PS-2) were about to arrest the suspect who reportedly robbed the employees of Florence Spa located at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and M.H. Del Pilar Street in Barangay San Antonio around 3 a.m., Tuesday.
According to the employees, the suspect went to the spa for a massage.
However, instead of paying the cost of the massage service, the suspect pulled out his .45-caliber gun and declared the heist.
He took the employees’ personal belongings including mobile phones and some jewelry at gunpoint before escaping.
The victims immediately reported the incident to the police who conducted a follow-up investigation.
Through a footage of the closed-circuit television installed at the establishment, authorities were able to trace the suspect at the corner of Florencia Avenue and West Riverside Street in Barangay Del Monte, at least two kilometers away from the spa, around 11 p.m.
The suspect, apparently sensing the presence of policemen, immediately took his handgun and fired shots at the approaching cops, triggering a shootout. The suspect died on the spot.
The victims positively identified the slain suspect as the same man who robbed them at the spa. (Alexandria San Juan)
