Ateneo took the No. 3 semifinal seeding in UAAP men’s volleyball after surviving Adamson, 25-23, 30-28, 25-19, yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Ron Medalla and Ishmael Rivera led the Eagles’ offensive assault with 32 of the team’s 52 spikes to finish with 17 and 16 points.
Ateneo ended the eliminations with a 10-4 win-loss record and arranged a semis duel with No. 2 Far Eastern University, which enjoys a twice-to-beat incentive.
Adamson, for its part, settled at No. 4 and will face defending champion and top seed National University in the other semis pairing.
Tony Koyfman also stepped up for the Eagles with 14 points while Chumason Njingha and Gian Glorioso finished with nine and seven points including a combined for seven blocks.
Meanwhile, NU cemented No. 1 seeding by sweeping FEU, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18, to finish the eliminations with 13 wins and a single loss.
Angelo Almendras shone with 19 points while Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad chipped in 16 and 11 points as the Bulldogs intensified their title-retention campaign.
FEU settled with 11 victories in 14 outings with Redijohn Paler firing 11 of his 12 points on attacks. (Kristel Satumbaga)
