BANGUED, Abra – A barangay chairman was wounded in an ambush in Barangay Angad here last Saturday.
Police said the victim was identified as Barangay Angad Chairman Ronnie Bringas.
Investigation showed that Bringas was driving a motorcycle on his way home when a man appeared and opened fired at the victim.
The victim sustained bullet wounds while the suspect fled with Bringas’ motorcycle.
Bringas was taken to the Abra Provincial Hospital in this capital town.
Police have yet to identify the suspect. The victim’s family has urged authorities to solve the incident to bring justice to Bringas.
Bringas’ relatives strongly suspect that the noontime shooting is closely linked to political rivalry here and in this province.
Authorities have yet to decide if they will recommend Abra to be placed under Commission on Elections control following recent shooting incidents in at least two towns in the province.
The Regional Joint Security Council is meeting next week to decide on the matter while the Comelec en banc regularly meets every Tuesday and Thursday, it was learned. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
