Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III yesterday hit critics of the government’s war on illegal drugs, saying this should not easily be ruled as a failure.
Sotto said there is “no such thing as failed or won” in the campaign against the country’s unending problem with the illegal drugs trade.
“War versus drugs should be continuing and perpetual. No such thing as failed or won. Ang dami kasing epal na hindi naman alam ang laban!” Sotto wrote on Twitter.
He said his tweet was not pertaining to a specific person or institution.
“It’s my general statement to those who do not really know about the fight against illegal drugs and drug abuse. My fight and research on these issues started as early as 1988 kaya alam ko kung sino walang alam at meron. At kung sino malamang ang mga sympathetic to drug users and therefore cloud their perspective,” Sotto said.
The Senate chief believes that it is still too early to evaluate the Duterte administration’s war on drugs since President Duterte has three more years to fulfill his campaign promise.
He also said that the fight against prohibited substances should not cease. “It only fails if we stop fighting,” he said.
“Besides this war never ends. That’s precisely why I keep on saying that we should work for a drug-resistant Philippines because drug-free is an impossible dream,” he added. (Vanne Terrazola)
