Comelec urged to resolve DQ petitions vs Cayetanos
As the May 13 midterm polls approaches, a petitioner seeking the disqualification of Alan Peter and Lani Cayetano as Taguig-Pateros congressional candidates has filed a motion urging the Commission on Elections to immediately resolve the pending petitions. Petitioner Leonides C. Buac Jr., through his counsel Emilio Marañon, said the immediate resolution of the two cases are not only important to the people of Taguig City and Pateros, Metro Manila, but they involve issues of transcendental importance and of national interest. “That the final disposition of these cases can set landmark precedents especially on the issues of residence of married couples as a qualification and, of course, on political dynasty,” Buac said in a joint motion for immediate resolution filed April 30. “That the lack of or delay in the resolution benefits the Cayetano couple who continue contend in the election despite the strong and uncontroverted evidence showing that they lack the minimum residence qualifications imposed by the Constitution,” he added. Tolentino pushes disaster management training
Disaster preparedness advocate and Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan senatorial candidate Francis N. Tolentino has proposed to include a certificate on disaster management training as an employee requirement in private companies and government agencies. He made the proposal following a series of tremors that hit different parts of the country last week. Tolentino said requiring a certificate on disaster management training will help the public further understand the importance of preparing for any disasters or calamities to increase the survival rate of the people especially in Metro Manila.
