A seven-year-old boy died after accidentally drinking silver cleaner stored in a bottle of soft drink in Makati City on Wednesday.
Police said the victim, Rain Mendoza, died at around 10 a.m. yesterday at the Ospital ng Makati due to cyanide poisoning.
Investigation showed that police received a telephone call from the hospital regarding a chemical ingestion case at around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday
Police found out that Mendoza was admitted to the hospital at 10:45 a.m. He was unresponsive and under cardio-respiratory distress.
Victim’s mother Jennifer Mendoza, 37, told police that her five-year-old son saw his brother lying inside the comfort room suffering from muscle stiffness as if having a convulsion.
Their neighbor “Tikboy”, after noticing the incident, immediately removed Rain from the bathroom and induced sugar into his mouth before bringing him to the hospital.
He was later revived and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit but died the next day.
Her mother went to the comfort room after the incident and noticed on the floor an opened bottle of Mountain Dew containing silver cleaner, which her son possibly mistook for soft drink. (Dhel Nazario)
