A man caught robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint in a dashcam video that went viral was found dead in Malabon City Friday.
Police Col. Jessie Tamayao, Malabon police chief, identified the suspect as Emerson Gamba of Barangay 24, Caloocan City.
Gamba’s body was placed in a sack and found dumped at the corner of Tuazon and Araneta Streets in Barangay Potrero. He sustained one stab wound in the chest while his hands and his feet were tied with a nylon cord.
The suspect remained at large until his body was recovered. The police were able to identify the suspect after his friend, a Caloocan City Jail inmate, recognized him through his “Metallica” and “Commando” tattoos.
Gamba declared a holdup on a taxi driver last Feb. 22. His crime was caught in dashcam video that went viral.
Wilmor Capellan, the taxi driver, told police that he picked up Gamba on Gil Puyat Ave. (formerly Buendia) in Makati City.
Capellan said upon reaching Samson Road in Caloocan, Gamba declared a holdup.
The dashcam video posted on Facebook showed Gamba’s face when the driver opened the cabin lights. Gamba could be heard saying: “Wag mo buksan ‘yung ilaw, puputukan kita. Wag mo kong tingnan, ah.”
The suspect fled with the victim’s belongings, including his P5,000 earnings, his cellphone, his wristwatch, and his wedding ring.
Police are investigating Gamba’s killing. (Joseph Pedrajas)
