SMDC-National University eliminated Wangs Basketball from the quarterfinal race after fashioning out a 102-71 victory in the PBA D-League at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
Senegalese center Issa Gaye had 13 points and nine rebounds while Niko Abatayo scored all 12 points in the first half as the Bulldogs won their third straight after a 0-5 start while handing the Couriers a fourth straight loss.
The Bulldogs, however, are virtually eliminated from the quarters with Chadao-Far Eastern University and Diliman College-Gerry’s Grill break their share of fourth spot in the Foundation Group today at the same venue.
Chadao and Diliman are sporting identical 4-3 slates.
The top four teams in the group after the nine-game eliminations advance to the crossover quarterfinals.
Despite being informed of their ouster from the playoffs, SMDC-NU coach Jamike Jarin was pleased with the team’s progress after a slow start in the season.
Sean Ildefonso tallied 11 points and five rebounds while John Galinato and John Lloyd Clemente added 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs.
Denzel Wong scored 17 points while Achie Inigo and Rickson Gerero added 11 and 10 points but Wangs slipped to 3-5 to end its bid for a top four finish with a game left in the elims.
Wangs trailed 54-46 at the half but was outscored 32-10 in the third by SMDC-NU.
