New addition Jhonard Clarito scored five of his 12 points in overtime as Marinerong Pilipino edged Metropac-San Beda, 88-85, to keep its quarterfinal hopes alive in the PBA D-League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Playing his second game since joining the team last week, Clarito put the Skippers ahead for good by breaking a 74-all tie at the start of the extension before a basket made several possessions later extended the lead to 81-76 close to two minutes remaining.
Metropac had a chance to send the contest to a second overtime but James Canlas missed a game-tying three at the buzzer.
Santi Santillan had 15 points and 14 rebounds while Gab Banal and Mike Ayonayon, also added to the roster last week, combined for 17 points as Marinerong Pilipino improved to an even 4-4 slate.
The Skippers forged a tie for fifth place with idle Diliman College-Gerry’s Grill while moving a half-game behind Far Eastern University, which carries a 5-3 record, in the race for the fourth and final quarters berth in the Foundation Group.
