DAVAO CITY – Full military honors will be given to the late former Speaker and Davao City Rep. Prospero Nograles when he is laid to rest at 12 noon Sunday at Lake Forest Memorial Park here.
It is not known whether or not President Duterte will attend the burial of the first Mindanao-native to become leader of the Lower House. The president visited the wake twice since Nograles died on May 4.
However, key leaders of Davao City are expected to attend the last rites for one of the city’s most illustrious sons.
Former president and now Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led the necrological service offered by the Lower House on Tuesday. She also took time to visit the wake at the Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapels here on Thursday.
PBA Partylist Rep. Jericho “Koko” Nograles, one of Nograles’ four children, said that members of the late Speaker’s family led by their mother, Rhodora Bendigo-Nograles, are profuse with gratitude for the people who condoled with them.
“Knowledge that full military honors my father will receive for his burial also helped ease the pain of losing him,” said the young lawmaker.
The elder Nograles succumbed to a serious respiratory illness at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Quezon City on May 4. He was 71. (Ben Rosario)
