BACOLOD CITY – A man ran amuck and hacked to death four persons, including his wife and sister-in-law, and injured three others at Barangay Balicotoc, Ilog, Negros Occidental Tuesday.
Slain were Melerna Magbato, 55; Ryan Olitan, 18; village councilman Leonilo Balsomo, 55; and Marianeta Magbato, 77.
Wounded were village councilman Jame Joy Tiaga, 29; Jessie Teroñes, 55; and Janice Elamparo, 34.
Police Maj. Norberto Barniso, town police chief, said the suspect identified as William Magbato, 52, allegedly attacked his wife, Melerna first and his sister-in-law, Marianeta, who was sleeping.
The suspect then attacked Olitan, and three others who were at the adjacent houses.
Balsomo tried to pacify him but he was also hacked.
It prompted the village councilman to shoot him and he was hit twice on his arm.
The suspect was then arrested by members of the army and barangay officials. Police recovered from him a 24-inch bolo.
The three other wounded victims were rushed to a hospital.
Police said the suspect has not eaten for few days prior to the incident which may have triggered him to commit the crime.
The family has no idea if the suspect has a problem.
He will be charged for multiple murder and frustrated murder. (Glazyl Masculino)
