A cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) died of an apparent heatstroke while undergoing a regular summer training program for new cadets.
Cadet 4th Class Al Rasheed Pendatun Macadato, 21, and a native of Kalilangan town of Bukidnon collapsed while on the road run training at around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
PNPA superintendent Brig. Gen. Chiquito Malayo said the road run is part of the 10-day summer training program for newly-accepted cadets at the PNPA in Silang, Cavite.
Macadato was among the 285 cadets formally accepted on May 1.
Macadato was immediately taken to the PNPA medical dispensary and was later transferred to the Qualimed Hospital in Sta. Rosa City where he died.
“The attending physician ruled out hazing against Cadet 4th Class Macadato,” said Malayo.
Malayo explained that the summer training program includes running, push-ups and pull-ups. He said all new cadets undergo the same training program to familiarize them of the normal physical routine in the academy.
Malayo explained that the hot weather may have affected Macadato.
This is the reason, he said, why squad leaders have been requiring cadets to drink at least 12 glasses of water a day during the training program. (Aaron Recuenco)
