A truck and a van figured in a head-on collision in Babatngon town of Leyte Friday morning, resulting in the death of eight people.
Lt. Col. Bella Rentuaya, spokesperson of the Eastern Visayas regional police, said the eight fatalities died on the spot due to serious injuries they suffered.
“Eleven other passengers of the van were injured. The driver of the truck and his helper were also injured. They were taken to the nearby hospitals,” said Rentuaya.
Rentuaya said the van was heading towards Tacloban City from Babatngon town when it collided with a truck travelling along the opposite direction at around 6 a.m. in Sitio Tab-ang in Barangay District III.
Local residents and motorists immediately assisted the injured victims while the police cordoned off the area for investigation.
QUEZON ACCIDENT
Six hours earlier, at least 19 people were injured when the bus they were riding in crashed onto a road railings before it hit a garage where two motorcycles were parked in Tagkawayan town of Quezon.
The bus was heading to Manila when the incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. in Barangay San Diego.
“It happened while the bus was travelling the descending curved portion of the road. Due to overspeeding, driver lost control and accidentally hit the railings,” the police report read.
“Subsequently, it tilted and hit a garage wherein two motorcycles were parked,” it added.
All the victims were taken to the Ma. Eleazar Memorial District Hospital Tagakawayan, Quezon. (Aaron Recuenco)
