Some 200 children took part in the recent Barangay 76-A Summer Futsal Clinic, at the S.I.R. Phase 1 Gym in Matina, Davao City.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, who graced the opening program, said they are happy to hold a barangay-based summer sports program for the children.
“ It is the mandate of President Rodrigo R. Duterte to provide opportunities and bring sports to the barangays through clinics and tournament. Forgive us to have only come now,” Maxey said.
Participants are from S.I.R. 1 and 2, Kabacan, Times Beach, Bucana and Isla Verde.
PSC coordinator Melchor P. Anzures, coach of Davao Aguilas Football Club (FC), spearheaded the clinic that is being supported by the Davao South Regional Football Association, Football for Humanity and Maharlika Sports Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with the Barangay 76-A officials led by barangay captain Rolando Trajera.
After the clinic, Anzures said they will conduct a two-day tournament on May 22 and 23 while the juggling and accuracy competition is set on May 24.
The awarding and closing ceremonies, which expects PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez as keynote speaker, is scheduled on May 25.
