BACOLOD CITY – A businessman reportedly linked to illegal drugs was shot to death in Barangay Maquiling, Sagay City, Negros Occidental last Friday.
Slain was Agapito Abastillas, 52, of Barangay Paraiso.
Police Major Antonio Benitez Jr. said the victim was in front of a store to deliver dressed chicken when an unidentified man appeared and fired at him at close range.
The victim was with his wife and two helpers when the incident happened but they were left unharmed.
Abastillas sustained three bullet wounds and was declared dead in a hospital.
The gunman who was wearing a bonnet fled on a motorcycle.
Police have yet to establish the motive of the killing but they are eyeing that the incident might be work-related or drug-related.
Benitez said they are verifying the victim’s drug links as he was under the drugs watch list of the city police.
Police are also probing one of the helpers of the victim who resigned from work that day for alleged maltreatment.
The killing might be triggered by grudge, but we cannot confirm it yet as of the moment, Benitez said. (Glazyl Masculino)
