CEBU CITY – The police captain who was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants had pending cases before the Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas.
According to the Regional Internal Affairs Service, Police Capt. Delfin Bontuyan was charged for six counts of dishonesty at the Ombudsman.
“I am not privy to the cases since they were filed before I took over,” lawyer Prince Rayner Robles, chief of the Investigation and Intelligence Division of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, said yesterday.
Bontuyan’s cases were pending for resolutions, said Robles.
Robles also revealed they had received new documents from their central office where the slain policeman was a subject for investigation.
Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, PRO 7 director, said Bontulan also had a pending case for unexplained wealth.
Bontuyan, 55, was fatally shot last Tuesday afternoon in a busy road in North Reclamation Area.
Sinas said investigation is ongoing to determine the motive of the killing and identify the assailants.
Investigators are looking into the possibility if the killing had something to do with the intelligence reports that the policeman was allegedly involved in the illegal drugs trade.
Reports linking him to illegal drug activities were the reason why the policeman was reassigned to Mindanao in 2016. (Calvin Cordova)
