A son of a barangay chairman was arrested by operatives from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) after he yielded P340,000 worth of suspected shabu in Tondo, Manila, Friday.
Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar, NCRPO director, identified the suspect as Benedict Carpio alias Jon-Jon, of Molave Street, Zone 21, Barangay 228, Tondo.
Policemen led by the NCRPO-Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) implemented a search warrant at the house of Carpio around 4:40 a.m.
Eleazar said the operation was conducted following casing and surveillance operations of the police against Carpio.
“He is included in our watchlist and his father, who is the barangay chairman, is also included in the narcolist,” Eleazar bared.
Carpio’s father, Ricardo, is the incumbent chairman of Barangay 228. He was listed as a High-Value Target (HVT) in the NCRPO drugs watchlist, according to Eleazar.
“We are also investigating leads that [Carpio] might be associated with groups involved in shooting incidents in Manila, particularly in Sampaloc,” he added.
Carpio’s father was not around when the police conducted the search.
The cops seized inside Carpio’s house four plastic packs of suspected shabu worth P340,000; a shot gun rifle; various ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.
“If you hold a position in the government or society, you should not use your power to do illegal activities nor to influence your family or relatives to commit crimes,” Eleazar said.
He vowed to continue the case build-up against the suspect to determine the extent of his participation in the proliferation of illegal drugs in Tondo, Manila.
Carpio was brought to the NCRPO-RDEU office where charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and RA 10591 or Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition in relation to the Omnibus ELection Code were prepared against him. (Martin A. Sadongdong)
