TOO many responsibilities. Too many work. Too many deadlines.
There are 1,001 things that can go through your head every single day. Sometimes we get too overwhelmed on where we are going to start and how to do all things at the same time.
Opening your email. Checking your social media. Your boss reminding you of your deadline. Visiting your friend’s birthday party after work.
Do you want a cure for all of these demands in life?
All you need is to learn how to say “no.” These two simple letters can greatly impact everything that we do, our relationships with others, as well as our relationship with own self. Using this word can save us on unwanted stress in our life.
So, it’s really about finding the balance – learning when it’s best to say no and when it’s a good time to give our “yes.” Furthermore, an important thing that we need to consider is whom or what we’re saying no to.
Distractions – this should be the No. 1 item on our Say-No-To-The-Following list. Distractions can delay and slow down our work and progress. Worse, they can sidetrack us from our goals leaving us unproductive.
What makes it difficult to say no to distractions is the fact that we aren’t even aware that they are indeed distracting us. You see, distractions have the reputation of being too nice, too good, and too tempting, hence, most us find ourselves giving our yes to them until it becomes too late.
As I am writing this article, I received so many notifications from my email, Viber group, and other deadlines need to be met. But I just need to resolute and learn how to say NO!
I need to focus and take my tasks one at a time. I cannot do them all at the same time. That is the reason why I need to learn how to choose my battles. I need to stop multitasking. Multitasking just eats more of my time because I become a jack of all trades and master of none.
Learning how to say no really helped me a lot to focus. Allow me to share with you the benefits you will receive if you learn how to say no.
Saying no helps you to say no to the good and yes to the best.
Saying no helps you to prioritize the important not the urgent things in life.
Saying no helps you to be more productive rather than reactive.
Saying no helps you to focus on the things you need to do rather than the things you want to do.
I know it’s not always comfortable saying no especially when you feel the need to please people or appease a certain situation but saying no might just actually save you some unnecessary trouble.
It may not always be easy but you can repeatedly practice until saying no no longer makes you feel embarrassed or guilty. LEARN HOW TO SAY NO!
THINK. REFLECT. APPLY.
Why is it healthy to say no to some people, situations or requests? What happens when you don’t say no because you want to please people? How can saying no affect your business, work, and relationships?
“Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.” – Jack Canfield
