Transportation agencies are all set for the opening of classes tomorrow.
As part of the Department of Transportation’s implementation of “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Balik-Eskwela,” various transport hubs are now on heightened alert status for the anticipated heavy traffic in the opening of school year 2019-2020.
“Ayaw natin ng dagdag na aberya sa pagbabalik-eskwela ng ating mga mag-aaral. Sa pakikipagtulungan ng ating road transport at railways sectors, titiyakin po nating may pampublikong transportasyong masasakyan ang mga estudyante’t guro para sila’y tututok na lamang sa panibagong yugto ng edukasyon,” Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said.
For the road sector, officials will conduct a roadworthiness test on school services while flyers about safe travel will be distributed.
The DOTr reminded all public utility vehicle drivers and operators that the 20 percent fare discount for students should be applied.
The railway sector is preparing various rail lines for the expected influx of passengers in different stations tomorrow.
To avoid long queues, transport officials will continue the bus augmentation program to service riders of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3.
The aviation and maritime sectors have also geared up for this year’s class opening.
The Philippine Coast Guard has presented its new equipment such as aluminum boats, jet skis, and pick-up trucks not just for the school opening but also for tropical cyclones. (Alexandria San Juan)
