BanKo-Perlas turned to its sturdy defense as it bested BaliPure, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, on Saturday for its first win in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Perlas Spikers had 15 blocks including six from Kathy Bersola and four from American Lakia Bright to even their win-loss record after bowing to the PetroGazz Angels in their opening game.
Bright and Bersola finished with 16 and 15 points while getting offensive support from Nicole Tiamzon and Turkish reinforcement Yasemin Yildirim, who helped with 13 and 11 points.
Tiamzon and Bright also covered the floor with combined 15 digs.
BanKo-Perlas also took advantage of BaliPure’s sloppy plays, gaining 30 points from the Water Defenders’ errors.
Jem Ferrer also provided the key plays for the Perlas Spikers with 29 excellent sets.
Danijela Dzakovic of Montenegro erupted for 23 points even as Slokavian Alexandra Vajdova and Grazielle Bombita added 14 points each but their efforts weren’t enough to life BaliPure to the winner’s circle.
The Water Defenders fell to their second straight loss.
Meanwhile, Pacifictown Army gave Motolite a rude welcome with a 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21 victory.
Olena Lymareva-Flink fired 22 of her 25 points at the attack line while Royse Tubino made her presence felt with 18 points for the Lady Troopers, who bounced back from a straight-set loss to the Creamline Cool Smashers for 2-1.
Channon Thomson and Edina Selimovic appeared unstoppable for Motolite with combined 37 points, but the Power Builders gave away 37 points on errors that contributed to their loss.
