The national U-22 team suffered a 5-0 loss to its Indonesian counterparts Sunday to finish dead last in the four-team Merlion Cup at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
Hopes of salvaging a third place finish in the international competition ended as early as the sixth minute when Muhammad Rafli scored the first of his three goals for the Indonesia U-22 squad.
Rafli’s other scores came in the 60th and 67th to highlight Indonesia’s dominance of a Philippine side which used the tournament as preparation for the country’s hosting of the Southeast Asian Games in November. (Jonas Terrado)
