Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said yesterday that the Filipino crew members of the two ships that were attacked in the Gulf of Oman Thursday are safe.
“Per report of our labor attache…there was an explosion. Fortunately, we have no countrymen that are among the casualties,” Bello said.
Bello said there about 27 or 28 Filipino crew members in the two ships.
The two ships – one carrying oil and the other transporting a cargo of chemicals – were targeted, leaving one ablaze and both adrift by still unidentified attackers.
Reports said all crew members were safely evacuated and were subsequently rescued by a ship headed to the United Arab Emirates.
