Jimmy Alapag will join the Sacramento Kings as an assistant coach in the NBA Summer League set next month in Las Vegas.
Alapag told ESPN5 that the role came after he immediately accepted an offer from NBA legend Vlade Divac, who serves as Kings general manager and vice president of basketball operations.
Divac and Alapag are members of the FIBA Players’ Commission.
“After our campaign ended in the ABL (with San Miguel Alab Pilipinas), I got to talk to him again. I told him I needed to learn more about coaching because I’ve only been a head coach for two years and he brought up the idea that I should come in and learn from the Sacramento Kings where he is also the general manager,” Alapag said.
“I cherish the opportunity to continue my education in coaching. I’ve been blessed to have worked with a lot of great coaches in the PBA and with Gilas Pilipinas and I’m excited to learn more from the coaches in the NBA,” he added.
The PBA legend has spent the last two years serving as coach of Alab Pilipinas, winning the ABL championship in 2018 before being named as San Miguel Beer assistant before the start of the current PBA season.
He is set to leave on June 26 to join the Kings training camp before heading to Sin City for the Summer League slated July 5 to 15 at the Thomas and Mack Center and Cox Pavilion.
