Kaya-Iloilo edged Global-Makati, 1-0, Saturday for its third straight win in the Philippines Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Alfred Osei, a native of Ghana, scored the lone goal in the 52nd minute to put Kaya back on top of the seven-team table with nine points, two clear of defending two-time champion Ceres Negros.
The reigning Copa Paulino Alcantara champion actually had to dig deep to gain the maximum three points with Global goalkeeper Nelson Gasic providing stellar work protecting the sticks.
But Global failed to avoid falling to a third straight defeat for dead last in the standings.
In Saturday’s other game, Stallion-Laguna downed Mendiola, 6-1, at the Biñan Football Stadium to climb in third place with seven points. (Jonas Terrado)
