The total number of carnapping incidents nationwide decreased by 56.8 percent last month compared to the same period last year, a police spokesperson bared yesterday.
Citing figures from the Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System or the Philippine National Police-Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management enhanced electronic blotter, Police Col. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said 19 carnapping incidents were recorded last month, lower than the 44 incidents noted in May 2018.
“Carnapping incidents have gone down following the PNP’s intensified campaign against criminality and the Highway Patrol Group’s relentless campaign against carnapping syndicates nationwide,” Banac said.
Carnapping remained most prevalent in Metro Manila with the National Capital Region Police Office with eight cases, down from 20 last year, followed by the Central Visayas Police Regional Office with four; Central Luzon, three; Northern Mindanao, two; and Cordillera and Socsargen, one each.
No carnapping cases were recorded in 11 police regional offices across the country – Ilocos police which had three cases last year; Cagayan Valley with two; Calabarzon with nine; and Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Davao region with one each. (Martin Sadongdong)
