PacificTown Army recovered big from a sorry setback the last time out, thwarting BaliPure, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21, yesterday to strengthen its hold of the third spot in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.
The Lady Troopers unloaded 42 attack points, including 13 from Ukrainian import Lena Lymareva-Flink, to overpower the Water Defenders although the former needed to overcome their gutsy rivals in the third to complete the straight-set romp.
It was PacificTown Army’s fourth win against three defeats as it stayed behind unbeaten PetroGazz (7-0) and defending champion Creamline (5-1) heading to the last six playdates of the double round robin elims of the season-opening conference of the league organized by Sports Vision.
The victory also came on the heels of the Lady Troopers’ five-set defeat to the surging Motolite Power Builders last Sunday that saw the latter squander a match-tying point due to miscommunication.
“That’s the most important thing – to recover from a loss,” said PacificTown Army coach Kungfu Reyes. “This is a must-win (game) for us.”
Against the Water Defenders, the Lady Troopers played with cohesion all throughout, keeping their act together despite falling, 14-18, in the third, forcing a tie at 19. Though Slovenia import Alexandra Vajdova put BaliPure back on top with a hit in the ensuing play, the Lady Troopers countered with four straight points to take control, capped by Lymareva-Flink’s fiery attack.
Jenelle Jordan then closed out the one-hour, 21-minute match with back-to-back hits against Vajdova’s two markers.
BaliPure, which drew 14 points from Montenegrin Danijela Dzakovic and 13 and nine markers from Vajdova and Grazielle Bombita, respectively, bowed out of the race with a 0-7 mark.
