A member of the Philippine National Police-Intelligence Group (PNP-IG) was shot to death Friday morning by two motorcycle-riding gunmen while on his way home near the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr. said Staff Sgt. Fernando Diamzon, 49, a resident of Tondo, Manila, died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
According to Diamzon’s companion, Senior MSgt. Ernesto Buenviaje, they had just got out of their office in Camp Crame around 8:50 a.m. after their night duty when the armed men attacked.
The two policemen were traversing Boni Serrano Road near corner Benitez Street in Barangay Bagong Lipunan onboard their respective motorcycles when two men riding a gray Yamaha NMax motorbike appeared.
Buenviaje said the backrider suddenly pulled out his handgun and repeatedly shot Diamzon who was behind him. The victim lost control of his motorcycle which later crashed into Buenviaje’s.
The gunmen fled towards San Juan City as Diamzom fell bloodied on the ground.
Buenviaje immediately sought help from authorities, claiming he was not able to react since he also lost control of his motorcycle and that his service firearm was placed inside the compartment.
Further investigation is still ongoing to identify the gunmen and the motive behind the killing. (Alexandria San Juan)
