The Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed to continue to fool-proof its personnel against the proliferation of investment scams, especially those assigned in Mindanao.
PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said the discussion on discouraging policemen on identifying pyramiding schemes is actually one of the topics during regular meetings of police commanders and their men.
“On the part of the PNP, we are continuously talking to our personnel to stay away from these kinds of modus, either as investors or a recruiter for investors,” said Albayalde.
Last month, the Central Mindanao regional police leadership issued warnings and tips on how to avoid investment scams after some of its personnel fell prey on the pyramiding scheme and other financial scams.
In a statement, the Central Mindanao regional police has admitted that some of its personnel have lost millions of money to Pulis Paluwagan.
At least three middle-ranking police officers were also sacked from their posts in March this year for their alleged involvement in investment schemes that targeted policemen as investors.
Albayalde said that the three police officials, including their alleged cohorts, were already charged before the Office of the Ombudsman.
He said the police officials even used their respective offices for the investment scam transactions and even facilitated fast lanes for policemen-investors.
Aside from regular dialogues aimed at financial empowerment of policemen, Albayalde said he also issued a stern warning against any policemen who would dip their fingers in any form of investment scams.
“We issued a memorandum circular warning all our personnel on this scheme,” said Albayalde.
Albayalde made the statement in the light of President Duterte’s order to run after the Mindanao-based KAPA Ministry which he accused of engaging in pyramiding scam. (Aaron Recuenco)
