CEBU CITY – After the relief of Police Col. Manuel Abrugena as chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, a change in leadership is also impending at the Cebu City Police Office.
Police Col. Royina Garma has reportedly availed herself of an early retirement and will be moving on to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to serve as general manager.
Garma has yet to comment on her impending exit.
While there is no official announcement yet, Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, confirmed that he had received advance information that Garma is leaving CCPO soon.
“We are waiting for the official report or orders but we have already an advance info. I have talked to her and we will just wait for the orders,” said Sinas.
Sinas said there is no information yet as to who will replace Garma.
Outgoing city councilor Joel Garganera, chairman of the city council Police Advisory Council, has somehow confirmed Garma’s transfer to PCSO through a Facebook post showing him visiting Garma in her office.
“I pay a visit this morning to our CCPO police director Royina Garma. In two weeks’ time, it will be a courtesy call to the Head Office of the General Manager of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office,” Garganera said in the June 19 post.
Meanwhile, the turnover ceremony to install Police Col. Roderick Mariano as the new chief of CPPO will be held tomorrow.
Mariano is replacing Abrugena, who served as CPPO director for more than a year. The two police officers were classmates in the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 1995.
Abrugena’s new assignment will be at the National Capital Region Police Office. (Calvin D. Cordova)
