The Pilipinas Ultimate Frisbee teams are looking to ride on their recent success when they compete in the WFDF 2019 Asia Oceanic Ultimate & Guts Championships set July 23 to 27 in Shanghai, China.
Mixed team spirit captain Chlods Manguerra expects plenty of obstacles and tough challenges from defending champion Taiwan, Japan and Australia during the five-day competition featuring 20 teams from each division.
But Manguerra is confident that the Philippine squads have what it takes to compete against the favorites.
“Compared to the previous years, masasabi ko talaga may laban tayo (I can say that we have a fighting chance) not just for the men’s and mixed teams but also for the women’s teams. We have high hopes of getting a podium finish,” said Manguerra.
The Philippines is coming off an impressive run in the WFDF 2019 Asia Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championships in Shirahama, Japan last week.
The men’s team retained its crown after beating Japan, 12-6, the mixed squad capturing gold after outlasting Japan, 10-8, and the women’s team settled for bronze following an 8-7 win over Singapore.
