Police yesterday seized more than P7-million worth of shabu and arrested the 18-year-old trusted man of a criminal syndicate leader in a buy-bust operation in a hotel in Caloocan City.
Police Major Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office, said the shabu inside 10 plastic sachets, with each sachet containing 100 grams, were seized from Jaymark Mercene, 18, reportedly a trusted man of a certain Edgardo Mongado Co who leads a criminal gang engaged in the illegal drugs trade.
“The operations of Mongado’s group cover Pasay City, Makati City, and some parts of Rizal and Cavite provinces,” said Eleazar.
Eleazar said his men mapped out a buy-bust operation after a police asset was able to purchase one kilo of shabu for P1.2 million from the suspect.
The deal, according to Eleazar, was supposed to happen in a gasoline station in Pasay City but the suspect changed the venue and finally set the transaction in a hotel in Caloocan.
Mercene was arrested after the suspect received 12 bundles of boodle money each with real P1,000 marked bill. Also seized were another transparent plastic sachet containing more or less 50 grams of shabu.
Appropriate criminal charges are now being readied against the suspect, according to Eleazar. (Aaron Recuenco)
