BATAC CITY, Ilocos Norte – Ilocos Norte Gov.-elect Matthew Marcos Manotoc, grandson of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, was sworn in amid rain showers here yesterday.
Manotoc was sworn in by Supreme Court Associate Justice Diosdado M. Peralta.
The new set of provincial, city, and municipal officials was also sworn in front of the “Daytoy ti Bannawag” monument of the late President.
Other members of the Marcos family – Sen. Imee R. Marcos, former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his sons, outgoing Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda R. Marcos, and Irene Marcos-Araneta – witnessed the oathtaking.
Secretary Mark A. Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways was also present during the event.
Manotoc administered the oath of city and municipal mayors, vice mayors, and councilors while Barangay Captain Norman Calaoagan of Marcos, Ilocos Norte, who is the youngest elected barangay official in the province, swore in Ilocos Norte Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba.
Imee thanked residents and local leaders for supporting her candidacy in the recent elections.
Manotoc thanked the people for their overwhelming support last May.
He said that he will prioritize health programs and projects in his three-year term as governor. (Freddie Lazaro)
