FINDING out your boyfriend or future husband is gay will turn your world upside down.
So what do you do if he is gay? Will you cover it up because you love him or simply let him go?
In celebration of Pride Month, a worldwide event that honors the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, eight winners of 2019 Bb. Pilipinas pageant gave their answers to the hypothetical question: “On the eve of your wedding day, you found out your partner is gay. What will you do?”
Gazini Christiana Ganados, Miss Universe Philippines: “I will communicate with him properly because I would be his future wife. I deserve to know because that’s what love is all about, which is communicating with each other. I will respect his decision and I hope he will respect mine. Then everything else will follow.”
Lawyer Bea Patricia Magtanong, Bb. Pilipinas International: “I would be heartbroken. Mahal ko kasi siya. Pag mahal ko siya, sana mahalin din niya ako. I admire couples whose relationships transcend sexuality. Siguro kung wala na akong magawa pa, I’ll just let him go.”
Resham Saeed, Bb. Pilipinas Supranational: “I think my first reaction would be confusion because no matter what your gender is like if I get close to a person that I choose to marry him, then that means they would know me well enough. However, I do not respect people who lie. But I would accept it and celebrate it.”
Emma Mary Tiglao, Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental: “Bago ka magpakasal, dapat kilalanin mo na iyung tao. Kung mahal ko, I don’t care (if he is gay). As long as we love each other, then we’ll go for it.”
Samantha Ashley Lo, Bb. Pilipinas Grand International: “I would be upset because I’ve spent na a lot of money for that wedding. Sayang! If he’s not my husband, then he’s going to be my best friend. I want him to be happy.”
Leren Mae Bautista, Bb Pilipinas Globe: “Siguro I would still accept him and love him for who he is. I won’t be angry and I would just appreciate him. Basta I would accept him for who he is.”
Maria Andrea Abesamis, 1st runner-up: “It would really depend on how you love the person, how ready you are.”
Samantha Mae Bernardo, 2nd runner-up: “We need to settle things if he really wants me to be his wife or gagawin lang niya akong front. Whatever our decision is, whatever will work for us, then I will be fine with it.” (ROBERT R. REQUINTINA)
