The security alert level status in Metro Manila has been downgraded to heightened alert after the intelligence community sees no immediate spillover of terror attacks following the suicide bombing inside a military camp in Sulu.
But Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said his order for his men to be alert and to intensify intelligence-monitoring stays.
“While the recent Jolo bombing case is being probed, we cannot relax our guard. Thus, all Unit and Station Commanders, are strictly reminded to continue to secure the headquarters of the Philippine National Police and police offices, vital installations, economic key points and places of convergence to guarantee that public safety concerns are checked and thoroughly supervised,” said Eleazar.
Metro Manila police forces have been placed under highest security alert status, full alert, after two suicide bombers detonated bombs inside a military camp in Indanan, Sulu.
Three soldiers and three civilians were killed while 12 others were injured. The mutilated body of the two alleged suicide bombers were recovered.
“The downgrading of alert status was due to the validation and consultation conducted with other law enforcement agencies and military units regarding the threat level within the National Capital Region,” said Eleazar.
He, however, said that his men will continue to monitor and assess terror threats in Metro Mnaila.
The PNP leadership earlier said that it will make some adjustments in security after a report that the two suicide bombers were homegrown local terrorists. But verification and confirmation are still being conducted.
Eleazar also reminded the public to remain alert and vigilant and report any incident or suspicious person to the nearest police station in their community. (Aaron Recuenco)
