Customs officers found over 800 grams of marijuana worth P1.4 million stuffed inside several packs of tortilla chips from Illinois, USA, Monday night.
The Bureau of Customs (BoC) said a total of 847.20 grams of marijuana or kush weeds was discovered in a parcel at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay when a man went to claim it.
The consignee was identified as Jake Soriano, a resident of San Juan City. He was apprehended after claiming the package.
The parcel, on the other hand, was shipped by APC Postal Logistics and was declared as clothes and snacks (Tortilla Chips).
The marijuana were packed in a clear plastic and stuffed inside several snack packs.
According to the bureau, the arrested claimant will be charged with violation of Section 117, 1400 and 1113 of R.A. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to R.A. No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Port of NAIA District Collector Mimel Talusan warned the public against importing illegal goods “as the bureau and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency intensified its partnership in the anti-drug surveillance, intelligence, utilization of x-ray units and other equipment.” (Betheena Kae Unite)
