At least 75 horse racing video game machines were confiscated and destroyed Wednesday morning by the local government of Manila and Manila Police District (MPD).
Manila Police chief Brigadier General Vicente Danao Jr. said the two-day police operation was part of their relentless campaign to get rid of illegal activities in Manila.
Danao said they also caught teenagers playing video game machines, but they were immediately released.
“This is the top priority of the Mayor because it destroys the lives of the youth,” Danao said.
Out of the 75 gaming machines seized, 65 are still functioning.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Danao led the destruction of the motherboards of the machines using large hammers at the Manila City Hall quadrangle.
The Manila top cop said the televisions will not be destroyed so that they can donate it to schools. Meanwhile, the coins placed inside the machines will also be donated by police to charity.
Domagoso vowed to launch a campaign against illegal activities in Manila. (Erma Edera)
