Ada Milby and Stephen Fernandez, both active officers and former athletes of rugby and taekwondo respectively, were named Deputy Chefs De Mission of Team Philippines for the coming SEA Games.
They will be assisting PSC Chairman William Ramirez in his tasks as Chef de Mission to the biennial event which the country will be hosting late this year.
“Stephen will be the Senior DCDM,” announced Ramirez.
It will be recalled that both Milby and Fernandez’ names have already been floated for DCDM even before former Philippine Olympic Committee President Ricky Vargas resigned from his post in haste last month
DCDMs face a full calendar as they are set to do constant monitoring and coordinating with their own sports along with Commissioners Celia Kiram, Arnold Agustin, Charles Maxey and Ramon Fernandez.
The PSC Commissioners have already dipped their feet in DCDM work as soon as Ramirez accepted the appointment in May.
Assisting their chief, they met with sports in their (PSC) clusters so as to move forward with requirements while Ramirez was waiting for the POC to give him his DCDMs.
Ramirez said that “the PSC Commissioners were a logical choice since they have already started coordinating with NSAs. They are also part of the board which will approve requests so it is good for them to know the situation on the ground for deeper understanding of our athletes’ needs.”
The three main clusters are Subic, Clark, Manila and other venues in Batangas, Cavite, La Union, Bulacan, Tagaytay and Calatagan.
