Police on Friday arrested two suspected robbers who were about to rob the cashier of a cargo and brokerage corporation in Paranaque City.
Police Major Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office, identified the arrested suspects as Willie Lopez, alias “Joven Subong,” 35; and Ronald Sulde, 40; both residents of San Juan de Coastal, Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque.
Eleazar said the suspects’ two companions were able to escape but they are now being hunted down based on the information they obtained regarding their identities.
“They have links to a group involved in several robberies in Metro Manila,” said Eleazar.
Eleazar said they received information that the suspects would rob the cashier of the Logistics Cargo and Brokerage Corp. after withdrawing from a nearby bank.
An operation was planned and plainclothes policemen were positioned in the area and at around 5 p.m., they spotted four armed men positioning in the area while the employees were closing their office.
“With this, our operatives decided to make a careful advance to preempt the robbery and this resulted in the arrest of the two suspects,” said Eleazar.
Seized from them were a .45 caliber pistol, a cellular phone, and a getaway motorcyle.
The cellular phone, according to Eleazar, contained exchange of text messages about the planned robbery.
“The other suspects riding in separate single motorcycle hurriedly left the place and escaped from the operatives,” said Eleazar.
Appropriate criminal charges are now being readied against the suspects. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
