A retired employee of a private company was shot dead Sunday morning by a motorcycle-riding gunman while driving his car along Osmeña Highway in Barangay Bangkal, Makati City.
Major Gideon Ines Jr., Makati Police Investigation Unit chief, said 63-year-old Jesus Dimayuga, a resident of Makati, died on the spot after he was shot in the chest near his heart.
Dimayuga and his wife, Romana, were aboard their car when a gunman riding a motorcycle suddenly appeared and fired once at the victim at about 8:30 a.m.
The wife said the gunman, whose face was fully covered, immediately fled towards EDSA.
Based on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained by the police, the gunman was wearing a yellow helmet and face mask, making it impossible to see his face. He was aboard a red motorcycle without plate number.
Hours after the shooting incident, the motorcycle used by the gunman was found at a vacant lot on La Guardia St. in Barangay Bangkal.
“We believe that the gunman who shot dead Dimayuga is a professional hitman. Imagine, it took him only one bullet to kill him. He shot him in the chest, near to his heart,” the Investigation Unit chief said.
He said they only retrieved a shell of a caliber .9mm pistol from the crime scene.
The wife of Dimayuga told probers that he had no known enemies, saying that he only traveled to go to church.
“After he retired, he only traveled and went to church. His usual routine, according to his wife, was house and church only,” Ines said.
It was learned that the victim was a former dispatcher of Sunshine Transport Taxi.
The victim is the father of JV Dimayuga, a former employee of the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corp., Inc., assigned to advertising department.
Dimayuga left behind 10 children.
